Story
Lightship Amsterdam is the bright-red lightship moored in Amsterdam-Noord. Built in 1951 in Dartmouth, England, as Light Vessel No. 12, it spent decades anchored at the mouth of the River Humber, guiding ships as a floating lighthouse. Decommissioned in the 1980s, it was brought to the Netherlands around 2009 and meticulously restored. The original steelwork was preserved and paired with discreet modern comforts, and the vessel now operates as a luxury B&B. Its 12-metre lantern tower, industrial interior and setting on the Johan van Hasseltkanaal make it a striking piece of repurposed maritime heritage.
Did you know? The ship’s 12-metre light tower is original to its working life as Light Vessel No. 12 on the Humber.
