This loft forms a part of the nationally listed (rijksmonument) Smit Slikkerveer factory complex. The large shed on the River Nieuwe Maas, built in 1931 in a traditional-craft style, was used for constructing and testing heavy turbo-generators. Around 2008, part of the complex was converted to residential use as robust lofts, while preserving the industrial character.
